Mobile Suit Gundam Titles Joins Funimation In September!

Funimation has officially announced that four Mobile Suit Gundam titles will be added to its streaming service from September 7th, 2021. The titles include  Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, Mobile Suit Gundam Narrative, Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin, and Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam. Both subbed and dubbed versions will be available. Moreover, Funimation already includes the Mobile Suit Gundam anime, Mobile Suit Gundam UC (Unicorn), and Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans.

These titles will be available in the US, UK, Australia, Canada, Ireland, and New Zealand. The Sunrise studio has also added five movies from the franchise to youtube, allowing viewers to watch them for free. Although it’s not confirmed yet, Sunrise is also planning on releasing a few titles in Mexico, Chile, Brazil,  Peru, and Colombia. The next Gundam movie trailer has also been released.

The Gundam franchise is a mecha science fiction media mix. The franchise was created by Yoshiyuki Tomino, Hajime Yatate, and Sunrise studios. The first movie of the franchise named Mobile Suit Gundam, was released on 7th April 1979. Manga adaptations of the series have also been released in North America by several companies like Viz Media.

The story revolves around a war between the Earth Federation and the Principality of Zeon in the fictional year 0079. The conflict lasts for a year. It directly affected all the continents on earth. Although Zeon is smaller than the earth, it has new humanoid technical weapons. However, the earth federation develops a new secret weapon as well. The weapon is named RX-78-2 Gundam and is controlled by a nonmilitary Amuro Ray. The series was divided into three movies for theatrical release in 1981—the original anime aired from April 7th, 1979, to January 26th, 1980.

Many viewers, including myself, agree that the franchise is hugely prolonged. However, that doesn’t stop me and many others from following up with the series. It is tremendously nostalgic and sums up my childhood. Fans are thrilled after hearing the announcement from Funimation and Sunrise.
