If you’re interested in scaring yourself senseless with horror, gore, and terrifying mystery, then drop everything and start watching Another Now! It is not very often that we get to see an anime with enough power to scare you to the point where it’s hard to move. The atmosphere of the show, the storytelling, and more than anything, the silence is what will baffle you the most. Another is one of those geniusly written shows that everyone needs to watch. It will play with your mind, and just when you think you’ve finally got it, you will be proven wrong. Overall, this anime is a fricking rollercoaster of horror and mystery. If you’re one of those with soft hearts and a weak stomach, then this show isn’t for you. I can, from my personal experience say, that Another is the stuff of nightmares.

The death of a classmate is truly a pain that cannot be described. You see that person everyday, day in and day out without ever thinking much about it. However, it’s only when they’re gone do we realize how much they meant to us. It’s like an incomplete painting. The class just isn’t the same anymore, and every time you look at your surroundings, things just seem out of place.
This is exactly what happened to the class of 3-3 of Yomiyama North Middle School. In 1972 the class suffered a tragic loss when a bright and extremely popular student named Misaki suddenly died under mysterious circumstances. Misaki was an amiable girl with a pure and gentle heart. Her death absolutely destroyed her teachers and her classmates. Therefore, unable to cope with her loss, the teachers and the students of class 3-3 began pretending that Misaki was still alive. However, they didn’t know that the deaths have only just begun. In the graduation photo of the class 1972, there was a strange presence in the photo, a face that could not be recognized. Ever since then, it seems that the presence never left.

The show’s story now takes place in the year 1998, 26 years after the incident of 1972. The protagonist of the show Kōichi Sakakibara due to his constant poor health, transfers in the middle of the term to the Yomiyama North Middle School. However, right from day one, he is surprised by the class’ strange behaviour. He meets a girl named Misaki Mei, someone that apparently only he can see. No student from the class acknowledges her existence, not even the teachers. However, to him, she is visible as clear as day.
Little by little, Koichi’s classmates and their relatives begin dying one after the other, a phenomenon that apparently has been taking place every year since 1972. Koichi and Mei begin connecting the dots that all of the strange deaths are somehow related to the incidents of 1972.
Exactly what happened to the class of 3-3 in 1972? Why are the students and their families dying all of a sudden? Why does everyone ignore Misaki? These are the questions that baffle Koichi, and now it’s up to him to find the answers before it’s too late.
