Stars from Elf. Zooey Deschanel and Will Ferrell came together with John Lithgow, Ed Helms, Wanda Sykes among others for a live stream event on Sunday for a fundraiser for the Democratic Party Of Georgia.
All the actors in the live script reading of the Elf movie filled up for movie’s the roles in the interesting event. The live stream was to raise funds and put in the proceeds towards the efforts of electing Reverend Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoffand and flipping the U.S. Senate.
Major Highlights Of The Livestream With Elf Stars
Popular comedian and actress Ashley Nicole Black was also a part of the event as the host and during the reading too. She clearly seemed to be a big fan of the movie as she wasn’t taking help from the script. Looks like she had all her dialogues learnt by watching the movie multiple times!
The live reading went on for about 1 hour and 40 minutes with no personal talks and just the script reading. The song “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town” from the climax sequence of the movie was replaced by “Jingle Bells” sung beautifully by all the actors in the end of the livestream session.
Missed the original song? Here it is for you!
The event aimed to raise a sum of $400,000 which looked totally possible right from the start of the event when $325,000 had been raised already. Towards the end, the event proved successful as they managed to raise $402, 966.
Script Reading: Who Did What?
For the script reading part, some of the original actors went on to read their characters’ parts for the event. However, some parts were filled in by “special guests” which was a new experience for Elf fans.
The members from original star cast of the movie who were a part of the event include: Edward Asner as Santa, Bob Newhart as Papa Elf, Amy Sedaris, Mary Steenburgen as Emily, Andy Richter, and Kyle Gass.
Lithgow as Walter, Danny Woodburnn as Miles Finch, along with Busy Phillips, Ken Jeong, and Ed Helms replaced original cast members for the event.
About The Cause
Helms, who is a native of Georgia, went on to share about why the original song “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town” was not inlcuded in the livestream and also shared his views about the candidates. He said,
“Apparently, we think that perhaps Republicans own the rights to that song because we got an unkind email when we asked for the rights to do it today. That’s what I heard anyway. Who knows?”
About Ossoff and Warncock, he said that they are “incredible candidates but also incredible human beings.”
