Pompo: The Cinéphile is a Shogo Sugitani manga series that has been serialised online since April 2017 on the pixiv Comic website. On June 4, 2021, the anime film adaption was premiered in Japan. On August 26, 2017, an anime adaptation was announced, and on September 1, 2019, it was revealed to be an anime film. After being postponed from 2020, the film was planned to premiere on March 19, 2021. However, it was again pushed back to June 4, 2021.
Pompo: The Cinéphile, Screening In North America: Announcement!
GKIDS announced that in 2022, it would release the anime movie Pompo: The Cinéphile by Shogo Sugitani in Japanese with English subtitles and an English dub in North America. In August, the anime made its North American debut at Montreal’s twenty-fifth Fantasia International Film Festival.
In the movie, Pompo has been making one B-grade entertainment film after another. The film that everyone would appreciate out of the movie capital “Nyallywood.” Gene, Pompo’s “movie fanatic” assistant, comes across a new script written by Pompo and is touched by the story’s exquisiteness. Pompo, on the other hand, tells him to guide it. As a result, Gene takes on his first directing assignment. Meanwhile, Pompo has discovered Natalie, an ordinary girl who has recently arrived in town with hopes of becoming a movie star.
