What Is The Kuudere Dere Type In Anime?

Each person has a unique personality. Similarly, anime characters do too! Moreover, characters with the same personalities are categorized into various dere types. Each one of them is given specific names based on their nature. Famous dere types include Tsundere, yandere, dandere and darudere. Unfamous types include shundere and Hinedere. Today we will look into the Kuudere archetype in detail. If you are an otaku, I’m pretty sure you have heard of the term before. However, even if you haven’t, don’t worry! I have prepared a list of all the famous personalities who belong in this category. You might even find some of your favorites on the list! Without any further delay, let us get into the details of the archetype.

Meaning Of Kuudere

The word comes from the Japanese words kuuru, which means cool in English, and deredere, which means lovey-dovey in English. Kuuru can mean calm, chill, or badass. Sometimes kuudere might be written as kudere. However, it isn’t wrong; it’s just a different romaji.

Kuudere characters are usually cold and cynical. In some cases, they might even seem emotionless, almost like a robot. They tend to be uninterested in everything and have an expressionless exterior. They don’t react to jokes or useless comments even if they are made by their love interest and are often considered a genius. These characters are associated with the colors blue or white since they are known as cold colors.

Kuudere characters may seem cold, harsh, and ruthless in the beginning. However, when you get to know them properly, their outer shell usually breaks, and you can finally see their sweetness and caring side. They always seem to be calm and are hardly angry, happy, or bothered. They dislike being the leader of a group. However, when an unexpected situation comes up, they are most likely to lead due to their calm and collected behavior. They are also respected a lot due to the same reason.

Kuudere characters are a lot like Tsundere since they have a different exterior, and only after that exterior is broken can you see the caring and loving side. They are also similar to Hinedere characters since they both seem uninterested in a lot of things. However, Hinedere characters might get cocky and are most likely to snap at people who irritate them. On the other hand, kuudere characters will remain calm. They are fascinating mainly due to the room for character development.
