People have various types of personalities. Similarly, anime characters do too! They are classified known as dere types. Multiple types of dere types exist. The famous ones include- Tsundere, Yandere, and Dandere. However, some character archetypes are less prominent than others. Darudere and shundere might be examples of such types. Today we will look into the meaning of the Oujidere type. I have also prepared a list of all the famous characters who belong in this category. You might even find some of your favorites on the list! Without any further delay, let us get into the details of the archetype.
Meaning Of Oujidere
You might be aware of the existence of a superiority complex. In anime, it is pervasive for characters to have such complexity. Characters who belong in this category tend to think of themselves highly. They firmly believe that they are better than everyone else and are superior. Such characters deem they should be treated like royalty. However, this does not precisely mean they belong to a royal family. Another word that might be fitting for them is narcissistic. They are similar to people or characters who have a god complex.
Ouijidere or ojidere characters often demand others to do their work since, in their mind, they are too significant to do useless tasks. They are considered to be attention seekers. Psychologically, this behavior is triggered by their past or childhood. Lack of attention during childhood might be one of the reasons that justify their personality. They tend to be selfish and put themselves first in any situation without caring about others. However, even if they do care about others, especially their love interests, they try not to show it because that is way below them, of course! It is somewhat interesting to see such characters and study their behavior.
Top 5 Oujidere Characters
Even if you haven’t heard of the word “oujidere,” you have probably heard of these famous figures. This list will help you understand the oujidere type better. Here I have noted a few of the most famous characters.
Katsuki Bakugo
Yes, our favorite hot-headed hero from My Hero Academia is an Oujidere character. Bakugo’s persona can be defined as aggressive and impulsive. He can be short-tempered and unfriendly at times. However, he has received constant praisings regarding his abilities, which resulted in a royalty complex. He is somewhat obsessed with winning and can barely accept defeat.
Ayame Sohma
Another big-mouthed and overconfident character we have here is none other than Ayame Sohma from Fruits Basket. Like other Ouijidere characters, he thinks of himself as someone superior to others. His clothing sense and presence have a hint of royalty, although he doesn’t belong to a royal family. His brother Yuki and he love annoying Kyo Sohma. Sometimes he can also come off as perverted. However, he does that jokingly.
Saiko Metori
Saiko metori is that rich character from Saiki k. He thinks he is better than everyone else and can buy everything with money. Some might even say he comes off as annoying due to his firm belief that he is superior and should be treated like royalty. However, later he realizes that not everything can be bought off when his friendship with Nendou strengthens.
Lelouch Britannia
Now Lelouch is a character who does come from a royal family and is more intelligent than the others. On top of that, he is aware of the fact and demands to be treated better. When he is at school, he gets along with everyone very well. However, underneath that sociable student lies a slightly sadistic person who waged a war that killed thousands of innocent people.
Vegeta
If you are an anime fan, I’m sure you’ve come across the name Vegeta. Even if you haven’t watched Dragon Ball Z. Like Lelouch, he belongs to a royal family too. He is highly proud of his heritage and believes his race to be the strongest. He looks down on almost everyone he comes across since his grand legacy has left a strong impression on him.
