1899 On Netflix: All About The Upcoming Show By Dark Creators; What’s Exciting?

Dark has been a breakthrough show for German dramas on Netflix and no doubt, it is worth all the hype. Now, since Dark has ended just a while ago, we have another thing to look forward to by the extremely talented team of Dark. 1899 was planned quite a while ago by Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar.

Dark was the first series in the two series deal between the creators and Netflix. The second one is 1899, which was announced in November 2018.

What Is 1899 Going To Be About?

Well, obviously to keep the secrecy intact, the makers haven’t given out much information about the storyline. However, the official synopsis and the title give us a pretty good hint of what it’s going to be like.

As one would make out from the title 1899, the show is going to be a period drama. Here’s the synopsis described in the official press release of the upcoming show:

“The original series revolves around a migrant steamship heading west to leave the old continent from London to New York. The passengers, a mixed bag of European origins, are united by their hopes and dreams for the new century and their future abroad. When they discover another migrant ship adrift on open sea, their journey takes an unexpected turn. What they find on board will turn their passage to the promised land into a horrifying nightmare.”

So, this suggests that it’s most likely going to be a blend of horror and thriller. Furthermore, the makers, Odar and Fries have released this joint statement about the series:

“What really made us connect to this idea was the concept of having a truly European show with a mixed cast from different countries. At its heart is the question of what unites us and what divides us. And how fear can be a trigger for the latter.”

Is 1899 Going To Be In English?

Thankfully, this time, the creators have decided to keep English as the primary language of the series, unlike Dark. In a panel at the Berlinale, they announced that the main language will be English. Also, the shooting is set to start at the beginning of the next year (early 2021). So, we can soon expect more insights regarding the show as 2021 is just around the corner.
