Overlord is a Japanese Isekai anime that is by far one of the best in the genre. The show has so far released three seasons containing 13 episodes each and a season 4 plus a movie covering the Holy Kingdom Arc was also announced in May 2021 which is all set to premiere in 2022. The series in its three-season run has managed to capture the attention of critics and audience alike and a complete adaptation of its novel series shows how revered the anime really is.
Its genre although similar to others has a lot of twists and dark elements which has made the anime get its very own cult following. Moreover, the ratings of Overlord speak for themselves getting a 7.8/10 from IMDb and a rating of 7.9/10 from MyAnimeList. PLOT
The plot of Overlord follows a world of the virtual reality game named Yggdrasil. The game has reached the end, all the players from all around the world are bidding each other one last goodbye. The servers are shutting down, and the world of Yggdrasil will never be seen again, at least that’s what we thought.
The game’s one of the most powerful players the overlord Momonga, wishes to stick with this world till the end, and does not log out even after the servers are shut. Little did he know that logging out was his last escape.
After the servers are shut Momonga is left shocked to see that Yggdrasil is still very much intact, not to mention that the game original characters with no personalities before have begun developing complex human emotions and are interacting with his character on their own volition! Which in simple words means that the game AI has now taken over!
With Momonga the Overlord the last player left in this world, he along with other companions set to overtake Yggdrasil completely. However, will the overlord be successful in ruling this world, or is there someone else, working from the shadows?
