Funimation has revealed on Twitter that Bandai Namco Entertainment‘s forthcoming smartphone game Tales of Luminaria will receive an anime adaption. The series, titled “Tales of Luminaria the Fateful Crossroad,” will be available exclusively on Funimation. When Bandai Namco revealed the Tales of Luminaria game just days before the release of Tales of Arise, everyone was taken aback. Even without a release date, the game is already causing a stir. Unlike the other smartphone games, Tales of Luminaria emphasizes overworld exploration over battle system-heavy action. Given how quickly it became an anime, it seems that the plot will be interesting enough.
The Tales series is a fantasy role-playing video game franchise published by Bandai Namco Entertainment (previously Namco) and produced until 2011 by its subsidiary, Namco Tales Studio, and currently by Bandai Namco Studios.
The production and release of Tales of Phantasia for the Super Famicom began in 1995. While each entry in the series stands alone with individual characters and tales, they are usually related by their gameplay, themes, and high fantasy locales. The series is distinguished by its graphic style, influenced by Japanese manga and anime, and its action-based battle system known as the “Linear Motion Battle System.”

Tales Franchise Anime Adaptation Plot
Bandai Namco explains the game’s plot as follows:
I’ll fight for my justice and, if necessary, murder for yours.
Long ago, this region was home to mountain-sized creatures that have now been petrified. Mana poured forth from their ashes, enticing those seeking its power, and civilizations emerged.
Humans began to revere these mana-producing animals, which they referred to as “primeval beasts.” They centered their lives around them. As a result, the old creatures came to be worshipped. Time passed, and now the war has broken out between the Jerle Federation, an alliance of countries worshipping the Primordial Beasts, and the Gildlan Empire, which has developed explosively due to superior technology.
The flames of battle continue to blaze stronger and brighter.
Federation knights in training, imperial troops, and adventurers with no allegiance to either side. Twenty-one very diverse people weave the tale of their relationships and the routes they take in a brutal era. Will their opposing viewpoints enable them to discover hidden truths about the world? You’ll have to experiment to find out.
This isn’t the first time the Tales franchise has had an anime adaptation. Symphonia, Abyss, Phantasia, Eternia, Vesperia, and Zestria have been adapted into films or television shows.
