Overlord, a manga written by Kygane Maruyama, was adapted into an anime which became a huge success. The anime’s third season was released in 2019 and the scriptwriter at the AnimagiC conference even said there’s an opportunity for an Overlord Season 4. So what is happening now?
Overlord Season 4 Release Date and Details
Even though the scriptwriter mentioned a season 4, no further information has been given regarding its release. There is no confirmed release date or even a hint that it will be released anytime soon. However, the show garnered quite the fan following and it seems that the studio would benefit from releasing a new season. Season 3 ended on a cliff-hanger and many fans are eager to watch the 4th season. It seems that the production may have been delayed due to the pandemic, but the show has not been cancelled. Therefore, we can hopefully expect a new season sometime soon.
What is Overlord about?
The story takes place in the year 2126 and revolves around a DMMORPG (Dive Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) by the name of YGGDRASIL. It is extremely popular and runs for 12 long years before the creators decide to shut down its servers. Within the game exists a guild by the name Ainz Ooal Gown. It once consisted of 41 members but after so long only 4 members have remained. One of the members left was the leader named Momonga. Before shutdown, the leader invites the players to the guild for a final moment, however, only one of the members turn up. This disappoints him and he decides to just spend the last few minutes till the game shutdowns in the guild.
However, when the time comes, Momonga sees that the game does not vanish. Instead, it seems to have transported to another reality altogether. Momonga seems to be stuck in the game and is unable to log out. He is unable to access the features such as a general message which can help him get in contact with the real world. Momonga decides to set out and check if there is another human being stuck in this world. His behaviour also seems to be modified by the game because his initial worries about killing and the morality behind such acts has disappeared. He becomes a powerful creature with no moral limitations.

Not much has been released regarding the plot details for season 4. We must wait to hear more information from the creators. Hopefully, they will release some spoilers or even a trailer for Overlord Season 4.
