Ao no Exorcist or Blue Exorcist first hit the screens in April 2011, releasing 25 episodes. However, season 2 of the series took almost 6 years to make a comeback and released 12 episodes + OVA in total.
With a 7.5/10 rating from IMDb, it can be presumed that the series was well received by the fans and the critics alike. Plot Of The Show
Background
The story revolves between the Assiah, the home of humans and Gehenna, the realm of demons. Much like the common belief, demons are evil creatures both by looks and nature. They constantly try to cross the inter-dimensional plane in order to enter Assiah to cause chaos and suffering to the human world.

However, a demon can only cross a plane by possessing a human soul. That is why a group of elite demon fighters or Exorcists protect and rescue people from demonic possession. The exorcists are the ultimate warriors against evil directly under the guidance of The Vatican.
The king or the ruler of the Gehenna – ‘Satan’ however is unable to find a strong host for himself to cross over to Assiah. Therefore, he sends his sons into the land of humans so that one day they can become strong enough to help him cross over to the other side. To help him rule over Assiah once and for all.

This is a story of a young boy named Rin Okumura. Rin was fostered and raised to be an exorcist alongside his twin brother Yukio Okumura by- father Shiro Fujimoto, an exorcist himself. On a chance event, Rin finds out that he and his brother are Satan’s true sons. However, instead of giving in to his father’s wishes, Rin decides to follow his foster father’s footsteps, who gave up his life to protect the young boy and become an Exorcist. An exorcist powerful enough to kill Satan, powerful enough to protect Assiah.
