GANTZ is a sci-fi Japanese anime television series that premiered in 2004, releasing 26 episodes in total. The series is popularly known as one of the most difficult plots to grasp, with many sinister meanings hidden behind it. The series, in general, received satisfactory reviews from both the critics and the audience receiving a rating of 7.2/10 from IMDb and 7/10 from MyAnimeList. However, despite faring well with the critics, the series never managed to gain a second season; however, its manga did have a pretty long run of 13 years. If you’re looking for something mind-boggling and straightforward with a lot of sci-fi elements and, ofcourse, deadly aliens, then look no further!

A Brief Introduction To The Plot
The series revolves around two high schoolers, Kei Kurono and Masaru Kato, who lose their lives trying to save the life of a drunk man who has fallen on the railway tracks. However, just when they thought that they were done for, Kei and Masaru find themselves transported to an abandoned Tokyo apartment where they meet Joichiro Nishi, a GANTZ veteran.
The duo, along with many other clueless people, is gathered in this space, unable to leave, and are introduced to the GANTZ, a black sphere that opens up and reveals an almost dad man along with many weapons for the people assembled there to use. Now, everyone has only one duty; either they can die in vain or use the weapons to fight and kill the aliens terrorizing the lands without anyone knowing. However, if you die in the line of duty, there is no coming back. On the other hand, if a GANTZ member finishes their mission successfully, they’ll be awarded points, and on collecting 100 points, they are rewarded with three options:
- They can choose to return to their lives, forgetting all the memories about GANTZ.
- They can upgrade for a more powerful weapon.
- They can revive someone who has died in the mission given to them by GANTZ
